Harnessing the Power of ChatGPT and AI in Finance

In early 2022, EDHEC Business School launched the monthly online speaker series, 'The Future of Finance,' designed to explore the latest developments in the financial industry and discuss how finance can address critical economic and societal challenges.

The EDHEC Speaker Series “The Future of Finance”, has garnered an inclusive audience of students, researchers, and finance professionals.

On 12 December 2023, EDHEC Business School will host Alejandro Lopez-Lira, Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Florida. He will deliver a talk on the growing capabilities of chatbots like ChatGPT and other AI systems for financial analysis and decision making.

Professor Lopez-Lira will discuss how advanced natural language processing can automatically synthesize and interpret textual data like news, earnings calls, and regulatory filings to generate insights for investment research and trading strategies.

However, these AI systems have limitations in reasoning and grounded judgment that require human oversight. Professor Lopez-Lira will explore implications for utilizing ChatGPT and similar technologies in portfolio management, risk modeling, fintech innovations, and new directions for financial AI research.

The talk will focus on practical applications rather than technical details, providing an overview of harnessing the power of AI chatbots and language models in finance.

The session will be moderated by Dominic O'Kane, Research Director at the EDHEC-Risk Climate Impact Institute and Professor of Finance at EDHEC Business School and Emmanuel Jurczenko, Director of Graduate Finance Programmes at EDHEC Business School
