EDHEC-RISK research legacy

printer-friendly version

Part of EDHEC Business School and established in 2001, EDHEC-Risk Institute has become the leading academic centre for industry-relevant financial research. In partnership with large financial institutions, its team of permanent professors, engineers, and support staff, and research associates and affiliate professors, has implemented seven research programmes focusing on equity, fixed income, real estate, infratructure, hedge funds, commodity and multi-asset.

Additionally, it has developed an ambitious portfolio of research and educational initiatives in the domain of retirement investing solutions for institutional and individual investors.

As part of its policy of transferring knowledge to the industry, it set up Scientific Beta in 2013 to favour the adoption of the latest advances in smart beta design and implementation by the whole investment industry. In January 2020, Scientific Beta was acquired by Singapore Exchange (SGX) for EUR186 million.

In 2016, EDHEC-Risk Institute contributed to the launch of EDHEC Infra & Private Assets Research Institute (EDHECinfra), a spin-off dedicated to benchmarking private infrastructure investments, the culmination of the Institute’s sustained efforts in this area over a 4-year period. EDHECinfra is now a provider of research and indices on unlisted infrastructure investments.

In 2019, EDHEC-Risk Institute teamed up with Coursera, a world leader in online training, to offer a new specialization in machine-learning techniques for financial professionals. The "Investment Management with Python and Machine Learning Specialisation", which includes 4 MOOCs and lasts four to six months, provides online learners a solid foundation in data science and the methods of calculation used in the investment sector, with a focus on the latest advances in portfolio management.

In the Fall of 2022, EDHEC-Risk Institute became EDHEC-Risk Climate Impact Institute (EDHEC-Risk Climate). This transition reflects the importance assigned by the School to sustainability issues and builds on the foundations laid by EDHEC-Risk Institute research programmes exploring the relationships between climate change and finance.
