Hilary Till, Principal at Premia Capital Management, LLC and Research Associate at EDHEC-Risk Institute, moderated the Global Commodities Applied Research Digest Editorial Advisory Board Panel on Chinese Commodity Demand at the New Directions in Commodities Research symposium on 10-11 August, 2017 in Denver.

The session on 10 August, 2017 examined the following questions:

• What can we currently say about the changing composition of demand for commodities in China?
• In addition, what can we infer about the role of commodities as collateral for loans in China as a driver of demand for commodities beyond strictly speaking, industrial demand?
• And what has the impact of Chinese trading firms been on commodity markets?

The international symposium brought together global thought leaders and prominent stakeholders in commodities to discuss critical thinking and new research related to commodities. The focus of the presentations was on the real-world relevance of commodities research, specifically oriented to the immediate and near-term future.
